2947 Achieves Historic “Double Crown”

On October 19, 2019, the Army Cadet League of Canada (BC Branch) presented top honours to 2947 “39 Service Battalion” RCACC at the annual Pillars Conference, held in Chilliwack, BC.

Master Warrant Officer Karen Chen received the President’s Trophy as the Top Army Cadet in BC. Chen has been a cadet with 2947 since 2014 and has recently completed the prestigious Fullbore Marksmanship Phase 2 course in Ottawa. The Fullbore Phase 2 course is composed of the 30 best marksmen from across Canada. At 2947, Chen is a Company Sergeant Major, the second-most senior appointment at the unit. She is also the Team Captain of the 2947 Marksmanship team and provides coaching and mentorship to junior competitors.

The Army Cadet League of Canada also awarded 2947 the Roy Rigby Jones Cup for the Best Army Cadet Corps in BC. The award recognizes substantial growth in the unit, responsible management of finances, and quality and diversity of training opportunities.

This is the second year in a row that 2947 has been awarded the “double crown” of producing the Top Army Cadet in BC and being named the Top Army Cadet Corps in BC. To date, no other unit has achieved such a feat. The Corps was also named the Best Army Cadet Corps in BC in 2016.
